Why the Belt Fails
The belt degrades and sheds rubber particles into the oil. These particles then clog the oil pickup, leading to low oil pressure and potential engine destruction.
- Must use specifically certified oil (PSA B71 2312 or newer).
- Inspect the belt width and condition through the oil filler cap.
- Frequent oil changes are the only way to prolong life.
Spark Plugs and Consumption
Wait for signs of high oil consumption or spark plug electrode breakage, which can cause internal damage to the cylinders.
- Check for blue smoke or excessive oil top-ups.
- Early spark plug replacement is recommended (every 20k-30k km).
- Listen for a 'clattering' from the vacuum pump (indicates belt debris).
