Simplified Engineering
Toyota's hybrid engines avoid many parts that fail on other cars, such as alternators, starter motors, and traditional belts for accessories.
- No starter motor or alternator (handled by MG1/MG2).
- Atkinson cycle for maximum thermal efficiency.
- Robust CVT-style planetary gearset.
Cablegate and Battery Health
The engine is solid, but the AWD versions had issues with the high-voltage cable corroding in salty winter climates (Cablegate).
- Inspect the rear motor cable connection for corrosion.
- Check the hybrid battery filter for dust (prevents overheating).
- The engine itself is practically maintenance-free beyond oil and filters.
