V6 Architecture Risks
Like the BMW N47, the Audi V6 TDI uses timing chains at the back of the cylinder block. Rattle on startup can mean a massive labor bill.
- Upper timing chain tensioners (rattle on cold start).
- Fuel injector copper seals (can leak carbon to the valve cover).
- Great towing capacity and refinement.
Ecology and Turbo
DPF and EGR issues are common if the car is only used for short city trips. Carbon buildup can also affect the intake manifold swirl flaps.
- Intake manifold flap wear (often requires replacement).
- Coolant shut-off valve leaks into the 'valley' of the engine.
- Turbocharger actuator failures.
